Thank You- Muslim Blogger Award

Dear Readers,

Today on 10th June 2014, War Against Eating Disorders received a Muslim Blogger Award.

Muslim Blogger Award

This award was given by the very charming Ismee Irma.  http://showmirsthelight.wordpress.com/2014/06/10/muslim-blogger-award/

Thank you ever so much Ismee Irma. Very generous and very kind of you. God Bless you.

One of the conditions of accepting this award is to mention one’s favorite verse from the Qur’an.

My favorite verse is from a miraculous Surah of Holy Qur’an, Surah Rahman-

 “The All-Merciful”سورة الرحمن

This is a very powerful verse and is repeated throughout the Surah/chapter.

“  فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ”

“Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will you deny?”

With Eating Disorder, we often fall into a sheer state of melancholy, a person who’s had anorexia/bulimia/Binge Eating Disorder for years often loses hope and is unable to see the beauty of life and living. Depression soon overtakes their mind, body and soul, and there’s darkness all around them. Yet as familiar as melancholic periods are to us, the depths of Eating Disorders remain a mystery.

To me Eating Disorders are beyond description, they indicate that something is amiss, but what?  And when such deep and painful feelings cannot be explained, they cut to the heart of one’s spiritual being. So with this verse, I am reminded of the beauty of life, beauty of God and the beauty of life around us.  With this verse, I am reminded that one has to pass through experiences that will worry and upset them, but  there’s always light at the end of tunnel. So while I type this post, I look around the Pret a Manger and what do I see? Beauty of Life and Living… I see how people are out enjoying the sunshine, this sunlight is a blessing of God. We all know very well how the lack of exposure to sunlight brings deficiencies and depression, so today I smile at the hot scorching British Sun.

ED tells you, no beauty in life, really?

ED tells you, no beauty in life, really?

As I  walk back home through the Canal way,  I feel even more blessed.  So I tell this Demon how can you tell any of us that there is no beauty in life?  I tell this demon with staid conviction, take your darkness and your evil whispers with you and go away.

Open your Eyes and Look around, Life is Smiling

Open your Eyes and Look around, Life is Smiling

“Whatever happens in your life, no matter how troubling things might seem, do not enter the neighbourhood of despair. Even when all doors remained closed, God will open up a new path only for you. Be thankful! It is easy to be thankful when all is well. A Sufi is thankful not only for what he has been given but also for all that he has been denied. ” Elif Shafak, The Forty Rules of Love.
